Festival of Politics 2025

Author: S.T

The Festival of Politics is Scotland’s esteemed annual event held in The Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh, bringing together the brightest minds to share, discuss, debate and answer questions about pressing subjects concerning modern Scotland.

With twenty-three subjects spread over three days, 2025 proved to be a vibrant and diverse year as SAY Women attended six of the talks relating to topics of interest for our organisation.

As Europe’s only grassroots charity supporting girls and young women impacted by sexual violence with semi-supported accommodation, we are proactive in our continuous learning and participation in social and political conversations. Our dedication to expanding our knowledge through learning from the most erudite minds enable us to provide the wrap-around support individuals need whilst playing our part in shifting society to becoming a fairer, safer and more equitable space for womankind.

The six talks that SAY Women attended this year were: In Conversation with Danny Dorling, Professor of Human Geography at Oxford University, sharing his insights of the Scottish social landscape; The Rise of Misogyny, a panel discussion delving into the challenges faced by girls and women in a patriarchal society; Gen Z and Politics asked the question of how young people engage with politics; Conversation with Pussy Riot’s Maria ‘Masha’ Alyokina, sharing her experiences and insights into political and social activism through art; Will AI and Robots Save our Economy and Planet?, an explorative conversation into the expectations and applications of artificial intelligence in an evolving world; and finally, Fact-Free Information, a session discussing the explosion of misinformation and fake news in the political and social landscapes. All twenty-three subjects are available to watch online now at: https://www.festivalofpolitics.scot/
